On the Cusp- Who I Was, Who I Am

June 5th, 2014 (four years ago today!)- the day of my blonde chop.

This morning I looked at my horoscope- the Sagittarius one– as I’ve always felt much more like an archer than the goat.  Although I’m born on the cusp of Sagittarius and Capricorn, sometimes I wonder, “how could anyone consider me grounded!?”

One may say my head is often in the clouds and I have a relentless need for freedom, change, and adventure, but most wouldn’t consider me calm or cautious, like a Capricorn.  That said, I turned to my “Sag ‘scope” of the day:

“A sense of dissatisfaction that has been dogging you for quite some time now will at last begin to fade. You will instinctively know that you have found your niche in life and can follow your calling to achieve your dreams. You will be able to understand what changes must be implemented to make your health as well as your work much better.”

Spot-on.

This brings me to a common theme (or struggle): identity.

Although my haircut is the same as it was four years ago, I’ve spent a lot of these four years questioning who I am.

Have I been who I wanted to be? Or have I been listening too closely to what others have said?

I’ve lived a few different places, dated different people, worked different jobs; but none of things things have made up who I am.  Wherever you go, there you are– no matter what is stripped from you, whatever title you have, or whoever is by your side.  You always have YOU.

So, what do they have to say about Sagittarius, anyway?

Strengths: Generous, idealistic, great sense of humor

Weaknesses: Promises more than can deliver, very impatient, will say anything no matter how undiplomatic

Sagittarius likes: Freedom, travel, philosophy, being outdoors

Sagittarius dislikes: Clingy people, being constrained, off-the-wall theories, details

“Curious and energetic, Sagittarius is one of the biggest travelers among all zodiac signs. Their open mind and philosophical view motivates them to wander around the world in search of the meaning of life.”

Fitting.

“Freedom is their greatest treasure, because only then they can freely travel and explore different cultures and philosophies. Because of their honesty, Sagittarius-born are often impatient and tactless when they need to say or do something, so it’s important to learn to express themselves in a tolerant and socially acceptable way.”

Although I can 100% identify with the Sagittarius theme, it makes me wonder, “am I stuck in the clouds?  Do I need to be brought back down to earth?

So, I looked back at the blog posts from the past few days, and came to this conclusion:

My theme for June: grounding. 🙏🏻

What does that mean?  Well, it means quite a bit.  For me, the first things that come to mind would be to get out in nature, turn off the phone, meditate, read, relax, and most of all: sit still!  I often think my way into problems, or over-think the world around me. This has not only caused me anxiety, but has held me back from being my true self.

Once you re-center and become one with yourself, feeling comfortable in your own skin, you are limitless- no matter what your sign.

Although I’ll never back down from my adventure-seeking, curious nature, maybe I can stand to embody a little bit of my sea goat, after all. ✨

June 5, 2018- a little older, a little wiser, and maybe (just maybe), a little more grounded.

Life Through A New Lens: Full Moon in Sagittarius

This morning I watched one of my favorite YouTubers, Melanie Beckler, give her weekly angel card reading for the May 29th Full Moon.  I’ve been following her closely for the past year- particularly her readings and meditations- and it’s been both eye-opening and comforting to see parallels with her guidance.

After soaking in her reading, I was left with a few messages about the upcoming Full Moon and how it relates to my own life:

  • It’s okay to ask for assistance- our guides and angels are here to support us;
  • We must let the past go to step into our true purpose; and
  • Once we understand who we truly are, we will live an abundant life.

In this particular reading, she ended with the Archangel Gabriel card- the angel of communication and creativity.  There has been no doubt in my mind that I have been lead by this powerful messenger angel; although I used to be timid or shy when speaking my truth, something bigger than me has given me the confidence and grace to speak up.  Keeping quiet never served me in the past, whether it was holding back in my writing or going with the values or morals of those around me instead of my own.

I’m just me.  So are you.

I often wonder if I have wasted my time or talents over the years because I did the things other people “expected” me to do.  However, that thought has shifted; each experience, whether valuable to my interests or not, has provided me a lesson to share with others.  I know what it’s like to move across the country multiple times, work a variety of different jobs, call off a wedding, live on hardly any money or material possessions, live with much more than I needed, yet most importantly- I have learned to be comfortable in my skin.

No matter where I am at mentally, physically, and emotionally, I have learned to be comfortable. To honor my feelings. To know I am okay just as I am.

That is the biggest lesson of all.

Situations will continue to appear in our lives until we can heal from the past and let go of the energies that no longer serve.  Even though I have cleared the major “junk” out of the way, there are little triggers that appear out of the blue to test me.  That’s okay; I just have to be mindful not to let those triggers trip me up, get me down, or stunt my growth.

Although Memorial Day weekend is coming to an end, I am relaxed, rejuvenated, and ready to see the world through a different lens; a lens of beauty, hope, and optimism.

The past is gone, and now we have tomorrow- and a beautiful Full Moon to enjoy.

Significance of the Winter Solstice

16406931_10104750855464578_667538181502204567_n

It’s officially winter!

Winter Solstice marks an important turning point for all of us; it’s the start of a new cycle and powerful time for reflection, intention setting, and spiritual growth.  As the year comes to an end, so do many old habits, regrets, fears, and pain.  It’s a time to let go, to look within, and find clarity within one’s soul.

I have more good news- Mercury Retrograde is coming to an end!

Unlike many who prefer warmer temperatures, I absolutely love winter; it’s a peaceful time of self-care, soul-cleansing, and hope.  It’s no surprise, either- I came into this world on a snowy winter evening at 9:08PM (12/22!).  My birthdate explains my affinity for even numbers and patterns, too.

Winter represents a more feminine, inward energy; it’s a wonderful time to tap into your intuition, compassion, and heart.  Where is your soul guiding you?  Now is the time to listen; your heart always knows the way.  Listen to the signs and go with your gut. ❤

Now is a powerful time for us to focus on self-care, to pay attention to our dreams, and set goals for 2018.  Whether or not you’re a fan of the cold weather, cuddle up in a warm blanket, make a cup of cocoa, and enjoy the positive energy that the new season brings.  It’s going to be a wonderful year ahead.

How to Survive Mercury Retrograde

It’s that time of year again!

If you’re familiar with Mercury Retrograde, you know what I’m talking about.  Mercury, the planet of communication, goes into reverse, causing a three week period of communication confusion, technical complications, and travel issues.  Since the planet is actually going backwards, it effects our lives here on earth, too.

We moved into retrograde on December 3rd (the day of the Supermoon) and will be in it until December 22nd (my birthday!).  The last Mercury Retrograde occurred August 12th to September 5th, where we prepared for new beginnings.  Many of us felt this energy; I know I did.  One example of my own Mercury Retrograde mishaps included losing my phone, which happened at a terrible time- while I was interviewing for jobs and doing temp work.  Nobody could get a hold of me for three very crucial days- or so I thought.  This was a huge lesson for me to slow down after unknowingly running on nervous energy for weeks.  Instead of managing my time effectively or going with the flow, I was chasing my tail.

I also realized I had been relying on my phone too much.  During the five days I didn’t have my phone, I began talking to people for directions, walked even more than usual, learned new areas of the city, and even used a payphone (yes, they still exist).  It made me value my own quiet time, reminded me to pick up that library book I checked out, and was a lesson about the kindness of strangers.  Not only did I survive the fiasco, but I made a new friend in the process- I got an email from a Good Samaritan who had found my phone in the park!

Depending on how you see it, Mercury Retrograde has positive aspects that can provide great lessons.  Just as I lost my primary form of communication, my phone, I gained an appreciation for slowing down.  This is also a good time to clean house.  Mercury Retrograde allows you to let go of any past feelings or behaviors that no longer serve you.  Although these lessons are helpful, there are many ways to avoid these common mishaps, too!

Be Careful What You Say

Don’t be surprised if your blunt opinion isn’t well-received!  December’s Mercury in Retrograde is ruled by firey Sagittarius, which could cause others to take your joke the wrong way.  Be sure to think before you speak!

Proofread Everything

Spell check, make sure you included the attachment, and don’t send the email to the wrong recipient!  These are all typical communication mishaps that can happen during the retrograde.

Avoiding Starting New Projects

Keep working on your existing projects, but don’t start something new, sign any contracts, or make major decisions during this time.  There is bound to be miscommunication, confusion, or arguments.  Hold off until after the holidays- it will be a less stressful time, anyway,

Don’t Make Big Purchases

A lot of electronics can go haywire during the retrograde.  I’ve been told to avoid making electronic purchases, such as phones, laptops, or TVs- since this can’t always be avoided, it’s a good idea to invest in the warranty!

Give Yourself Time to Travel

It’s the holidays, so many of us will be traveling near and far.  Allow extra time when going to the airport, check the traffic map before leaving the house, and be sure you clicked the right button when purchasing tickets (yes, this is a true story- someone bought me a plane ticket once for the wrong month).

Bottom line: double check, double check, double check!  Don’t be afraid to go outside this Mercury Retrograde- just slow down and think before you speak.  Remember, it’s a time to clean house and move forward.  The past is a place of reference- not a place of residence!

Get ready for 2018- it will be a time to embrace being the authentic you that you stepped into in 2017.
