A Stop on My Journey of Life

Life is a journey, not a destination.

My life has been a colorful compilation of cities, jobs, career changes, haircuts, boyfriends, and even a fiancé in the suburbs.

I’ve never been one to label myself- in fact, the only consistent label I’ve had is “writer.” When people ask what I write about, I tell them a variety of things, as I don’t limit myself to one specific topic, either. As we grow, we evolve- and so do our interests, passions, and gifts to offer the world.

At 34 years old, I’ve lived in seven different states, the most recent being my two and a half year Boston experience. Many people ask me if I plan on staying, in which I answer, “yes.”

The truth is, I don’t know what my future holds- but what I do know is that I’m making the most of each and every moment.

Every day is simply a stop on my journey of life- and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Twists and Turns: Opening To A Fresh Page

I’ve never been a fan of routine.

In an effort to add some excitement to my morning walk to work, I took an unusual turn.  Instead of walking down the same street, looking at the same storefronts and sights, a little voice in my head told me to do something different today.

As I strolled down the tree lined street, I noticed something shiny on the ground.  I walked toward it, noticed it was a notebook, and picked it up- wet and all.  Wiping off the morning dew, I opened it, expecting it to be filled out; left on the sidewalk as trash.

It was brand new.

Not only were the pages blank, but it matched my aesthetic: blank and rose gold, complete with a heart.

I thought about the feminine design, symbolizing my own willingness to open my heart- and to open to a new page.

We may hold onto the past or regret decisions we have made, but every twist, turn, and detour has a deeper purpose.  These turns may have an unexpected outcome or a beautiful surprise, but when we live in the present moment, we will discover an important lesson:

Our true purpose is to live in the joy of our everyday journey.

Sometimes we just have to start our day off a little differently and be open to what comes our way.

Sacred Space: The Significance of the Number 4

Yesterday I had the day off for Patriot’s Day- a holiday celebrated in both Massachusetts and Maine- and decided to spend my afternoon recharging in nature. Although I was tempted to watch the Boston Marathon runners along Beacon Street, I knew it would be best for me to connect my mind, body, and spirit with a dose peace and quiet.

We are a society on the go, and often times we neglect to honor our natural rhythms and cycles.

The number 4 represents the state of being- “things are as they are.” Through planting myself in nature, I got back to my roots and centered myself.

4 energy also represents a sacred space, a sanctuary, and embodies security- which is exactly how I felt sitting along the Charles River, breathing in the warm air and listening to the birds chirp all around me. I have my own sacred space in my home, but there’s nothing like being one with nature, allowing all feelings and thoughts to flow.

There are 4 seasons, 4 elements, 4 directions; 4 is an instrumental number, symbolizing a strong foundation and the natural cycles of life.

Since April is a 4 month, I’ve been focusing on developing my own solid foundation by taking small steps to build a peaceful and purposeful life on a daily basis. Whether it’s meditating by the river or being mindful of what you eat, consider what you’re doing today to honor your mind, body, and spirit.

You’re worth it.

Positive People: Actions Speak Louder Than Words

“Stay positive” has been a common term loosely used in day-to-day life, often by people who say they’re positive, yet act the opposite. Although the power of our thoughts and words are a major component in personal growth, the way one acts around others plays an even bigger part in the Power of Positivity.

Positive thinkers aren’t just people who avoid negative thoughts- they are people who know how to handle the negativity rather than avoiding it.

So, what else makes a person positive? Over the years I’ve thought about this quite often- especially when navigating my own challenges in life. Here are a few things I’m still working on myself, and may even help you along your own journey.

They Go With The Flow

Positive thinkers know they can’t control each and every situation. Instead of causing a fit when things don’t go their way, they find meaning and lessons in everyday life.

They Grow From Experiences

Have you ever noticed how the same challenges pop up in your life, but manifest in different forms? Whether it’s the sexist boss or the obnoxious roommate, you’ll continue to encounter these people until you learn how to handle them in a new, more productive way. The universe is funny like that.

They Admit When They’re Wrong

Positive thinkers are able to push their egos aside. They know when and how to be humble, and are comfortable admitting their shortcomings- especially when it affects the feelings of those around them.

They Know How to Say No

This is extremely important- setting healthy boundaries can be crucial to maintaining friendships and honoring one’s own self care. People pleasing may seem like the easier route, but will wear you out in the long run. It’s better to be honest and say “no” than to build resentments.

They Don’t Change Around Other People

Positive thinkers stay true to themselves around everyone in their life. They hold strong to their opinions, but don’t take offense when others don’t agree.

It takes a lot of practice to handle negative people or situations, but when you discover your truth- and walk in it- your life flows more effortlessly. You will no longer take everything so personally, not will the opinions of others matter so much.

When you love you, magical things start to happen.

Year 34

Today I turned 34.

Yes, it’s my birthday!

Some people may dread getting older, but I welcome it with open arms. As each new year of my life approaches, I feel grateful for all I have learned, everything I’ve experienced, and for another trip around the sun.

As an old soul, I always felt wise beyond my years. I finally feel I am catching up to how I feel inside. Perhaps some of you can relate to that.

It wasn’t an easy year, but it was a year full of growth. I’m thrilled to say hello to 2019, and all of the exciting new chapters I’m about to write.

Calm in the Chaos

Taxi cabs, loud voices, and the shoving of people in a crowd- it sometimes seems impossible to stay calm in life’s chaos. There’s two types of chaos I can experience in my daily life- the hustle of the city and the ongoing stimulation of others around me.

At times, I would simply like to sit quietly by the water or live in a place without so many people or complications- yet my heart lies in the city.

Lately I have been thinking a lot about staying calm through the chaos life can bring. From gossip to managing room of students, both my personal and professional life can wear me down at the blink of an eye.

So, how does one keep their balance?

Somehow I have managed to retreat to my own little world- a world where I am limitless, peaceful, and content. A world where I find solace in my creativity, music, and nature. A world where I am able to communicate with something much bigger than me. A world where I live with purpose.

So, whether you’re frazzled at work or in the middle of an argument, remember to take a deep breath and look within. You’ll be surprised at the solace and can find within yourself.

Two Years of Living Beautifully

Time flies when you’re making the most out of life.

When I moved to Boston two years ago I didn’t know anyone, but I found comfort in my writing. I started this blog to share my journey, process my feelings, and learn the power of vulnerability.

Two years later, I’ve grown so much, connected with amazing people, and learned to be much braver. Thank you for following along, sending emails, and for all of your love and support.

Mindful Moments in the City Lights

The Public Garden is such a magical place in Boston. I spent my last evening of the long weekend strolling the park and taking in the beautiful city lights glistening on the pond. With my journal in hand, I sat on a bench and wrote out my intentions for the week.

Preparing for the days ahead by centering myself has been so helpful in staying grounded through stressful times.

Whenever I’m feeling uneasy, I just go back to my intentions and remember all the beauty around me.

Living with intention is key to a purposeful life- so don’t forget to take in those mindful moments of sitting in the park or enjoying the city lights. ✨
