Healing Crystals To Support Your Work

Lately I’ve been in the habit of keeping stones with me.  Depending on where I’m going and what I’ll be doing, I will pick a stone to keep in my pocket throughout the day.

After starting to carry these gems with me on an everyday basis, I became curious to learn which stones may benefit me at work, too.

Although I have a daily practice of meditation, enjoying my coffee, and reading in the morning, I need to remember my “zen” throughout the day, too.  I often need to reset at lunch time to breathe, take a walk, and clear my mind.  The stones have been helpful reminders to calm my brain, slow down, and take it easier on myself.  When I feel nervous or antsy, I just reach in my pocket!  The stone is a symbol to keep me conscious and to stay in the moment.  Do crystals actually do anything?  I don’t have a scientific answer for that; but I do know they have been used for centuries (and I would never turn down additional support!) and have helped many long before my time.

Patience, communication, and sense of peace are absolutely necessary in your everyday work, so I looked up which stones would be helpful for focus, creativity, and working with others.

Rose Quartz

Representing unconditional love, this pretty pink stone is a favorite of many.  Rose Quartz opens the heart chakra and promotes friendship, self acceptance, harmony, and healing.  This is an ideal stone in any profession when working with others; this crystal allows us to feel compassion and understanding.  This is so commonly taken for granted in the workplace!  When you open your heart and think of your job as purposeful, the day simply goes by faster, everything flows easier, and you leave feeling better.  Empathy, care, and compassion goes a long way at work- each day I feel as if I have accomplished something good, which is a very new feeling for me after leaving the traditional business world.

Opalite

Opalite supports all levels of communication, opening any emotional blockages, psychic abilities, and strengthening your spiritual connection.  It doesn’t hurt that it’s so pretty- it shines iridescent shades of pink, blue, and purple.  Opalite is an ideal stone for life transitions, especially when facing a big decision.  It’s an amazing tool for opening the third eye- the chakra of intuition.  As my one year in Boston approaches (tomorrow!), I look back on how my own third eye assisted in my decision to start a new life in Massachusetts.  Although I’ve been living on “gut feelings” for as long as I can remember, that was the third eye in action.  Opalite is also great for mood swings, increasing energy, overcoming fatigue, and encourages persistence.  This is a power stone to aid all areas of life!

Amethyst

This powerful and protective stone is not only beautiful, but it also benefits the immune system (which is always good in a school!).  Amethyst is most commonly known to support the crown chakra, which is your connection to the divine and your higher self.  Spiritual awareness, healing, inner peace, and balance are among the many benefits of amethyst, which are all perfect for any educator, writer, or artist.

Not only are these gemstones lovely, they each support your mind, body, and spirit.  I’ll admit, I’m hooked!  In addition to my pocket stones, I also love wearing crystal bracelets to boost my good vibes.  If you’re in the Boston area, my favorite stores for crystals are Seven Stars (Central Square, Cambridge) and ZuZu’s Healing Arts (Downtown Melrose).  You’ll even get a free stone at ZuZu’s when it’s your first time in!

Live Beautifully Through the Heat

Ah, summer.  As the temperature heats up and humidity sets in, this time of year can be a little stressful when you’re trying to keep cool.  Although we may feel like tossing our bras out the window and heading to the shore, everyday life doesn’t always permit such a luxury!

Although I love the beautiful East Coast summers, the heat can interfere with my zen and overall comfort level.  It’s difficult to feel polished and put together when you’re overheating on your way to work, stuck on public transit, or simply running errands in 90 degree air.

I recently found a new way to beat the heat in addition to smoothies, beach days and lounging on the front porch.  I discovered Warner’s colorful Play It Cool collection, which have been my go-to bras for the past couple of months.

These bright bras come in a few different styles to give my basic black style a pop of color, while regulating my body temperature and keeping me comfortable!  I also love the wireless design and CHILL FX™ lining that wicks away moisture to keep me cool.

Thanks to bra fitter and lingerie expert Kimmay Caldwell, I also learned a few great tips to find the best fit and style for you, too.

  1. Make time to try on each bra before purchase. We know this is painful, but like breasts, one size can vary from the other.
  2. Re-Fit once a year. Whether you measure yourself or get a professional fitting, it’s important to stay in touch with your bust.
  3. Support from the bottom up. The majority of support comes from the band (not the straps!), so if it is not fitted properly, you may experience sagging or digging in. You should be able to slip two fingers underneath the back of the band if it fits properly.
  4. It’s normal for your bra to stretch out. Since bras are typically made of elastic, they will stretch over time. It’s best to start with the outermost rung on your new bra and as it wears, move to the middle, then the tightest.
  5. Don’t settle, don’t sacrifice!

Whether you’re looking for a new bra to compliment your wardrobe or are seeking a style to help with the heat, check out the Warner’s and Olga options for your own bra-blems.  You can find styles that are comfortable, eliminate sleevage and look great under clothes- even when you’re just relaxing at home.

Healing Through Art

The arts have been a major part of my life ever since my earliest memories of drawing, creating handmade cards, writing poetry, and illustrating storybooks.  Creativity has also been an outlet for me to express my emotions, from drawing to daily fashion.

“Keeping it simple” is something I try to embody on a daily basis- life is such a complicated journey that it is imperative to stay grounded in order to stay sane.  While I used to love more of everything and a variety of anything, today I adore simple beauty and minimalism.  I decided not to complicate things and stick with white and gold- less is more.

With every brush stroke, I gained a little bit of strength and began to let go of insecurity, fear, and doubt.  A coach of mine once suggested the “post-it practice”- sticking affirmations on your walls or mirror- and ever since I have been mindful of writing down positive thoughts to remind myself every day that I am, indeed, enough.

This coach even put me in a hula-hoop and told me that the only thing I could control what was inside that hula-hoop: me.

Since I began painting I have also been inspired by so many amazing women in my life.  Their love has helped me gain confidence and heal, so I have started to make art for them, too.

Together, no matter what our struggles, we can help one another by sharing our own inspiration and journey.
