Living In the Flow- This Weekend’s Lesson, As Told By A Rock

I’ve had a blast writing in the sun over the weekend, biking throughout town, and leaving little messages in secret spots.

Earlier in the week I was feeling manic- I was finding myself roaming from one room to another, starting one project but never finishing another. I was bouncing off other people’s energy, encouragement, and feedback, and forgetting to focus on what I was doing. Even for someone who writes about living in the moment, I can lose my sense of grounding, too!

I spent the weekend on my bike, exploring the city, and snapping shots of the beauty around me. Like magic, my sense of balance was restored and I felt like I had my wings of flow once again.

At last.

I sat by the Boardman River, aligning my rocks and accessories while I gazed into the water. As the river flowed, I felt my body loosen and my spirit light up. At last, the mania had begun to pass.

I can also thank my meditation teacher, Nilcee, a wonderful soul who I met back in my NYC days. She leads a Tuesday night meditation in Astoria, but has moved over to Zoom during the pandemic. Although we met four years ago, I’ve felt her energy with me ever since- and unlike other teachers in the past, she assures me she is a guide; I already have all the power within. I may have a difficult time listening to others who tell me what to do (my sacral tells me everything I need to know), but I feel extremely empowered when I’m guided along my path- or river, if you will.

She reminds me of my natural flow and rhythm, and to tune out distractions with tuning into myself. On Friday night, I even called in to a virtual Happy Hour to chat with the Astoria friends along the Grand Traverse Bay!

Near and far, it’s wonderful to feel connection, and it’s even easier to do so when you tune into yourself and live in the flow.

I’ll be leaving these around town throughout the next week, so keep your eye out for a few little golden words in Traverse City (and soon Boston + NYC!).

Find Your Constants

What’s your constant?

It could be picking up your guitar, going for a swim, cuddling up with a good book, or spending time with a pet.

A constant is one of those things that just makes you feel good, no matter where your head is at.

For me, spending time by the water and enjoying the fresh air always brings me back to center. Whether it’s journaling with my morning coffee or snapping photos on an afternoon stroll, there are many constants that helped me learn to sit with self- and to enjoy life right as it is happening.

While living in Boston, I spent the majority of the time by myself. From exploring the city to writing in my studio apartment, the majority of my time was spending writing, reflecting, but most of all, healing– and I was able to do so through art.

During my free time, I started painting sayings from the blog as well as symbols that meant something to me. Painting, writing, and art has always been a constant in my life- no matter how I’m, feeling, I have an immediate sense of purpose when I get my messages out into the world.

No matter how small, it’s the little things in life that can mean the most.

A few weeks ago I started gathering rocks and painting them in gold, capturing the same phrases I once painted on blank canvases and in notebook pages. From evil eyes to red balloons, I began adding new colors to my golden rocks- and started scattering them around town.

Spreading light has been another constant in my life- one that not only benefits me, but can help brighten someone’s else’s world, too. Although Goldie Rocks aren’t a solution to our issues today, it’s a gesture that helped light my own way when the road was dark and grim. The simple words can mean so much in times of worry- and I hope my rocks have brought a smile to someone’s day.

When I had nothing and was feeling alone, painting balloons and a few joyous words gave me a glimmer of hope in an otherwise uncertain world. As my light began to shine, others would try to put it out- but others, the ones who appreciated my light- needed me to continue to shine even brighter.

I needed to continue to shine for myself.

Remembering to take care of yourself is so important during this quarantine- and every day of the year. Prioritizing your own needs and daily joy is imperative to living a balanced life, whether it’s a simple constant or indulging in some major self-care.

When you shine for yourself, you shine for the world- and maybe your constant will brighten someone else’s day, too.

You Don’t Have to Contribute to the Negative Conversations

In our lifetime, we have never seen an event such as the Coronavirus pandemic.

In my 35 years on this planet, never have I walked down city streets in the middle of a Tuesday afternoon to find everything closed with barely a person on sight. As I safely left my home to lay rocks outside of businesses and in hidden spots downtown, I stopped to think about how others are feeling.

With a smile on my face, feeling full of purpose, I paused to considered those who haven’t quite seen the light at the end of the tunnel.

My heart goes out to the restaurant owners, retailers, and businesses who have halted their daily routine to flatten the curve. That’s why I am focusing my energy on doing what I can to help- even if it’s small.

You are stronger than you realize.

I thought about what we can control in terms of our media consumption and the conversations we have with family or friends (check out a post I wrote a couple of years ago about how you’re lowering your energetic vibration without even realizing it).

What are we focusing on? Fear? Financial insecurity? Health concerns?

Many of us feel compelled to join the negative conversations and will embrace some of their fear- much of which isn’t your own.

That’s why we need to focus on the helpers, not the problem.

I read an amazing article by author Steve Pavlina, who shared his views on the importance of lightworkers in today’s society:

“The lightworker’s duty is to serve the health of the body. Lightworkers strive for a healthy, sane humanity. They’re like white blood cells fighting diseases such as cruelty, apathy, depression, disempowerment, dishonesty, and cowardice. Such diseases damage the health of the body. The #1 disease lightworkers battle is fear. Wherever there is fear in the body of humanity, lightworkers are driven to respond.”

Yesterday I chatted with a few friends who are visibly concerned about their health and safety. I am, too. However, my focus isn’t on the news and the negativity. It’s about focusing on what I can do in the now.

We all have a choice of what messages we want to send- do we want to spread the fear, or send light?

Do you want to look at the problem or the solution?

Even though we have to stay home, there is so much we can do both online and within our own homes to raise the overall vibration- and choosing what conversations you partake in is a part of this.

I am doing my best to be mindful of the energy I am putting out- and instead of fear, I have faith.

Retreat: The Time For A Collective Shift

Right now is a huge opportunity for a collective shift.

Although much of the world is in panic, I see the Coronavirus as a chance for us to grow, evolve, and come together.

This isn’t a time to worry, turn against each other, lash out, or isolate. Consuming negative media, turning to bad habits, or regressing in your personal progress isn’t a solution during this uncertain time.

I’ve been doing what I can to connect with others (in a safe, virus-free way!) for the past four years now through writing on my blog and other websites. Since a lot of what I do is online, I’m a bit frightened by how uncomfortable American society is with idle time. Sitting still and learning to embrace the moment is such a gift!

Coronavirus will result in more creation and less consumption, I hope.

The only thing you can control is yourself, the light you shine, and the energy you put out into the world. As we reflect and retreat, think about how you can spread your light in your daily life.

Whether it’s an uplifting post or helping someone in need, these little things add up collectively.

Ask For What You Want

I’ve sometimes wondered why my path has been so up and down, back and forth.  From the cities I’ve lived in to the variety of jobs on my resume, people have never been able to quite figure me out.  I don’t care.  However, as I reflect on the past ten years or so, my passions and values have been exactly the same; I just didn’t know what to do to manifest them into a stable life.

I’ve done all kinds of things to seek stability, but in the end, they just weren’t in alignment with my creative nature or the purpose lined up for me.  I’ve had an incredible need to experience all life has to offer, yet when my heart is full and I’m doing what I love, I see no need for anything more.

This past year was a time of “cleaning house,” letting go, and laying the foundation for the future.  Before now I never asked for what I wanted… because I didn’t quite know yet.

First, I had to get into alignment with my heart to figure it out.

I’ll be ringing in 2018 the same way I did last year– going to The Nest for Brenda’s New Year’s Eve party and making vision boards.  I had a great time last year, just shy of one month into my life in Massachusetts.  Back then I had no idea what my future would look like; I just wanted to heal and be happy.

and I did.

My vision board for 2017 was spot-on aside from a trip to Paris and a money tree.  It wasn’t a very ambitious vision board… it looks like I set out to spend the year lounging in bed (partially true).  Jokes aside, I’m no longer spinning my wheels like I used to.  There was a lot of self-discovery, self-care, and self-compassion.  I gave myself a break of trying to be “perfect” and used the year to document the lessons I learned along the way.

I used to dip my toes into situations only to pull back out and try something new.  No; not any longer.  I’ll be turning 33 this Friday (12/22!) and I’m no longer concerned about checking off “life boxes” like I was in my 20’s.  I’ve had many opportunities to check them all more than once, but I turned my nose and chose freedom.

I’ll always choose freedom.  The right person won’t restrict me from living out my purpose, because I’ll be in alignment with my soul.

It’s extremely exciting and uplifting to know that our thoughts create our reality.  We have the freedom to build whatever we want in this life.  In 2018, I will no longer sell myself short- I’ll continue writing, keep a budget, find that publisher, finish my book, travel more, and connect with even more amazing people who inspire me to be the best I can be.  Thanks to finally doing work I love, living in a place that feels like home, and surrounding myself with people who encourage me, I have a newfound faith in the future.

Most importantly, I have a newfound faith in myself.

12/12 Gateway: A Time of Remembering

I’ve been doing a lot of reading on the collective energy this past year, wondering if I was the only person feeling a major “shift.”  I’ve felt an awakening ever since January, and it turns out I’m not the only one.  2017 has been an amazing year of transformation, growth, and enlightenment.  As the year wraps up, today marks a special gateway into peace and prosperity: the 12/12 Time of Remembering.

I came across Jenny Schultz‘s blog, which had a wonderful explanation of this powerful time:

What does the Time of Remembering mean?

It means that all are being shown who they are and also who they are not. One will see what they need to, experience what they need to in order to step fully into their power and embody all that they are. Another will be shown very clearly where they have given away their power to institutions, beliefs, and other people. Most of you will experience a melding of both. As you embody all that you are in each moment, all that you are not must also come to light. Understand that in each moment you are being given a choice.

What type of choice?

You are being given a choice to push past all the doubt and disbelief and honor who you know that you are at your core. In order to do this, all the layers of the matrix must fall away. This can be liberating for some, but many experience deep discomfort as all that they know is being challenged.

Letting old densities leave us can be extremely uncomfortable, causing anxiety, worry, and doubt.  We’ve all been through a lot this past year, so now is the time to prepare for 2018.  As we have let old habits, beliefs, doubts, and patterns fall away in 2017, 2018 will be a time to build, grow, and manifest our goals.  It’s time to live the life you love!

Be conscious of the signs that may be leading you on the right path.  12/12 has many other spiritual significances, connecting us with our higher self.

You’re connecting with the collective

12 represents unity, and two of them together are twice as powerful!  On 12/12, people all over the world are meditating at 12:12 (both AM and PM).  If you get the chance, please tap into that positive energy!  When in doubt, remember that you are part of something much bigger.

You’re on the right path

It’s such a relief to get just a tiny sign that you’re on the right path.  Perhaps you’re thinking of changing careers, picking up a new hobby, or finally writing that book- if so, 12/12 is confirming that now is the time!  Be careful to start new projects until after Mercury Retrograde, though- until December 22nd, be weary of communication issues, technical failures, and confusion.  Now is the time to plan, not execute!

It’s a time of manifestation

Continue to follow your path and dreams!  I’ve been searching for meaning in my life, and 2018 is the time for it all to come to fruition. It’s easy to try to hurry and watch the pieces fall into place, but remember to go with the flow.  If things aren’t working as planned, try to be patient and know that you’re being supported.

Stay positive

It’s so easy to give up when it feels like you’re far from your goals.  Seeing 12:12 is a sign to remember to stay positive- you will better manifest your goals with the power of thought.

I’ve reflected a lot on my goals, what I used to think I wanted, and what I know I want now.  As I get closer into alignment, my faith in the future has grown stronger- at last, I know I am supported.
