You Don’t Have to Contribute to the Negative Conversations

In our lifetime, we have never seen an event such as the Coronavirus pandemic.

In my 35 years on this planet, never have I walked down city streets in the middle of a Tuesday afternoon to find everything closed with barely a person on sight. As I safely left my home to lay rocks outside of businesses and in hidden spots downtown, I stopped to think about how others are feeling.

With a smile on my face, feeling full of purpose, I paused to considered those who haven’t quite seen the light at the end of the tunnel.

My heart goes out to the restaurant owners, retailers, and businesses who have halted their daily routine to flatten the curve. That’s why I am focusing my energy on doing what I can to help- even if it’s small.

You are stronger than you realize.


I thought about what we can control in terms of our media consumption and the conversations we have with family or friends (check out a post I wrote a couple of years ago about how you’re lowering your energetic vibration without even realizing it).

What are we focusing on? Fear? Financial insecurity? Health concerns?

Many of us feel compelled to join the negative conversations and will embrace some of their fear- much of which isn’t your own.

That’s why we need to focus on the helpers, not the problem.

I read an amazing article by author Steve Pavlina, who shared his views on the importance of lightworkers in today’s society:

“The lightworker’s duty is to serve the health of the body. Lightworkers strive for a healthy, sane humanity. They’re like white blood cells fighting diseases such as cruelty, apathy, depression, disempowerment, dishonesty, and cowardice. Such diseases damage the health of the body. The #1 disease lightworkers battle is fear. Wherever there is fear in the body of humanity, lightworkers are driven to respond.”


Yesterday I chatted with a few friends who are visibly concerned about their health and safety. I am, too. However, my focus isn’t on the news and the negativity. It’s about focusing on what I can do in the now.

We all have a choice of what messages we want to send- do we want to spread the fear, or send light?

Do you want to look at the problem or the solution?

Even though we have to stay home, there is so much we can do both online and within our own homes to raise the overall vibration- and choosing what conversations you partake in is a part of this.

I am doing my best to be mindful of the energy I am putting out- and instead of fear, I have faith.

Magical Spring Air

There’s something magical about the smell of spring air.

Listening to the birds chirp, the sound of the waves, and the warm breeze hit the leaves takes me back to the same feeling of wonder and excitement as I did growing up.

During this reset, I’ve been looking back on the person I was before I let the world start to shape me. How did I feel on those warm spring days playing along the bay? What excited me to get up and run out to the backyard in the morning?

In the days before cell phones and the internet, we learned how to have fun on our own- and we had a lot less anxiety.

As I look back on a simpler time, I can’t help but wonder, why not always live this way? Why not incorporate more balance into everyday life even when the world starts up again?

Although we have the world at our fingertips, we will miss what’s right in front of us if we don’t pause to see it.

Without the Show, This is Humanity

Today I came across this soothing shot, taken spring 2015 on 98th Street outside my Upper West Side apartment. 

Without the restaurants, shows, and Fifth Avenue shops, what is New York City?

Without the downtown bookstores, film crews, quirky dives, coffee shops, and comedy clubs, what is New York City? 

Without the tourism, the busy streets, the style, and the glamour, what is New York City?

New York City is humanity. 

New York City is quiet days of reflection in the park. It’s sitting on a bench and watching the squirrels.  It’s the creatives and the dreamers. It’s laughter and joy.

It’s clapping outside your window to honor the healthcare workers who have put their own health on the line. 

New York City is coming together. 

The best memories I have of my years in New York City weren’t the clothes I wore or the food I ate. It wasn’t the guys I dated or the celebrities I met. As much as I loved the entertainment and the opportunities, I also embraced the solitude; the anonymity combined with the feeling of never being alone. 

The best memories were the moments I learned, grew, and connected- and shared stories with others who felt just as lost, broken, yet hopeful as I did.

Without the show, New York City is full of soul.

The show will eventually go on, but with a different tone. After this time of reflection, uncertainty, loss, and fear, there will also be growth. There will be realizations.

Humanity will come together again, and hopefully, we notice those bright lights and glittery scenes in a new, healthier way.

Some Perspective About Using Your Time Productively During the Coronavirus Pandemic

While I went through my own personal crisis in my late 20’s and early 30’s I learned a lot of things.

Needless to say, I have my own perspective on the state of the world and its reaction to the Coronavirus.

I almost died more times than I can count. I went to the hospital with a BAC a of .6 and was told later I shouldn’t have lived. I’ve been taken out of work functions (plural) in an ambulance.

Yes, I did this all to myself, but it was a byproduct of unresolved trauma and pain. So, I started to work on it. It wasn’t pretty, and new issues pop up all the time. Today I can handle those issues productively.

Would you guess I’m heading to the airport after a 30 day stint in a Mississippi rehab? Probably not, but I started Mindful in Style two weeks later.

I understand there is a universe all order to life. I understand I had a reason to live. So I kept writing, and I kept growing.

Now that we’re in the midst of a global crisis, I can use these lessons and help others. It might not be much, and I may not be able to solve anyone’s health or financial problems, but if I can shed just a little bit of light, then you may understand why I’m so passionate about writing my not-so-pretty experiences.

I’m sure a lot of people won’t agree with my perspective, and that’s okay. Since I already stay home the majority of the time I’m not working (and the other is spent by myself or with a friend outside), I intend to spend this time completing my v-steam course, finishing my book, and reaching out to literary agents.

How will you use this time?

Retreat: The Time For A Collective Shift

Right now is a huge opportunity for a collective shift.

Although much of the world is in panic, I see the Coronavirus as a chance for us to grow, evolve, and come together.

This isn’t a time to worry, turn against each other, lash out, or isolate. Consuming negative media, turning to bad habits, or regressing in your personal progress isn’t a solution during this uncertain time.

I’ve been doing what I can to connect with others (in a safe, virus-free way!) for the past four years now through writing on my blog and other websites. Since a lot of what I do is online, I’m a bit frightened by how uncomfortable American society is with idle time. Sitting still and learning to embrace the moment is such a gift!

Coronavirus will result in more creation and less consumption, I hope.

The only thing you can control is yourself, the light you shine, and the energy you put out into the world. As we reflect and retreat, think about how you can spread your light in your daily life.

Whether it’s an uplifting post or helping someone in need, these little things add up collectively.

A Time to Reflect and Create

Traverse City may be a ghost town, but it’s no different than the rest of the world right now.

I’m so fortunate to live in such a beautiful place, full of inspiration and serenity, especially during this time. There’s no need for entertainment when you have the peace inside yourself and the beauty all around you.

My heart goes out to everyone who is out of work or experiencing loss due to this pandemic. Please continue to take care of yourself, because there will be brighter days ahead.

Continue to create, inspire, learn, and grow. We can all take this time as the collective to look within and determine how we want to move forward with our lives. 🌿
