Two years ago I had the opportunity to work with a jewelry designer named Catherine Angiel. Based in New York’s vibrant Greenwich Village, I met Cat right before the 2015 holiday season. As I look back on the work I’ve done over the past few years, some of my favorite was with Cat. I helped with social media, blogging, photography, and more- and yes, that’s my hand in the photos!
An advocate for the LGBT community, Catherine coined the term “commitment band” back in the ‘80’s. Pretty fitting, considering her gallery is just around the corner from the Stonewall Inn! Her style is apparent in her work (she’s also a rock-and-roll drummer), from gorgeous black diamonds to edgy monogrammed pieces.
The holiday season is an exciting time in the jewelry business. The year prior, I was working with an online engagement ring retailer based in NYC, so I’ve seen a number of engagement rings designed for these special holiday surprises.
Catherine’s jewelry has been worn on Madonna, Taylor Swift, Bette Midler, Michelle Williams, Sarah Jessica Parker, Anne Hathaway, and many other recognizable faces. Her designs have graced the covers of Glamour Magazine, and her black diamond earrings were even seen on Michelle Obama at the 2013 White House Correspondents dinner.
Getting to know the customers was another one of my favorite parts of working with jewelry designers. I loved listening to their stories, capturing or collecting their moments, and being able to re-tell their tales for others to enjoy. Catherine has been a part of endless engagement stories, and I have loved being a part of them.
If you happen to be in New York City this holiday season, please stop by Cat’s gallery at 43 Greenwich Avenue. I promise, you won’t be disappointed by her delightful designs!
