A minimalistic holiday

December is the month I was brought into this world, so it’s no surprise that it’s my favorite time of the year. I love the crisp winter air, the sparkling lights, making holiday cookies, decking the halls and celebrating my birthday.

It’s rare that I’m able to travel home to Michigan every holiday, so I’ve kept the Christmas season relatively low-key over the past few years. One year I ate at a Chinese restaurant on the Upper West Side (as a good UWSer would) of Manhattan, and on another I indulged in a traditional Italian dinner (AKA party) on Coit Hill in San Francisco. While my holidays are as untraditional as I am, I do manage to stay in the Christmas spirit by putting my own style on home decor.

I have a baby plant which suffices as my Christmas tree since I’m in Airbnbs for the holiday. I was also gifted a beautiful (and unique!) poinsettia, which is one of my favorite plants.

I love simplifying things, decluttering and living in a zen place; I’ve certainly began to appreciate quality over quantity. Although next holiday I plan to be more settled and decorate a real tree, this year I’m enjoying hot chocolate in my cozy Medford place with my  little Charlie Brown tree.
